Interaction of Melanin with Metal Ions Modulates Their Cytotoxic Potential

چکیده

Abstract Melanin is one the most common biological pigments. In humans, specialized cells called melanocytes synthesize pigment from tyrosine and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine via enzyme-catalyzed reactions spontaneous processes. The formed melanin granule consists of nanoaggregates oligomers containing different monomers. Although main function protection against damage solar radiation, may also be involved in oxidative stress. latter function, sequestration redox-active metal ions scavenging reactive oxygen species are importance. paper reviews basic physicochemical properties responsible for binding discusses specific conditions that induce cytotoxicity such as iron copper by facilitating their redox activation release melanin. While value EPR spectroscopy other EPR-related techniques study emphasized, concomitant use methods efficient approach.

Impact of metal ions on netilmicin-melanin interaction.

Netilmicin, which is mainly used as the sulfate, is a semisynthetic, water soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic obtained by chemical modification of sisomicin. It is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains which are resistant to other aminoglycosides. Netilmicin form complexes with melanin. The aim of the presented work was to examine the effect of Cu2+, Zn2...

Picogram detection of metal ions by melanin-sensitized piezoelectric sensor.

A heavy metal ion sensor was constructed by cross-linking melanin onto the gold electrode of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). A mercury ion sensitivity of 518+/-37 Hz/ppm was observed, a substantial increase in sensitivity compared to previous reports of 10-50 Hz/ppm with the limit of detection at 5 ppb. Detection of other metal ions including Sn(2+), Ge(4+), Li(+), Zn(2+), Cu(2+), Bi(3+), Co...

Effect of Metal Ions on Melanin – Local Anaesthetic Drug Complexes

The affinity of melanin biopolymers for metal ions, drugs and other organic compounds is an important factor in the etiology of toxic retinopathy, hiperpigmentation, otic lesions and irreversible extrapyramidal disorders. The aim of the presented work was to examine the interaction of local anaesthetic drugs used in ophthalmology with model DOPA-melanin in the presence of metal ions. It has bee...
